Buyers of the “Mugshot” nonfungible token (NFT) released by Donald Trump have expressed their intention to have dinner with the former President at his Florida residence. On May 8, numerous cryptocurrency users took to social media to announce their plans to meet Trump at his Mar-a-Lago home, as part of the agreement when purchasing the digital trading cards featuring his mugshot from his surrender at the Fulton County Jail in Georgia. It is important to note that this event was not listed on Trump’s website, and the platform that sold the NFTs was not directly associated with his campaign.
Brandon Davis, a user known as X, mentioned that some Hex blockchain supporters, also known as “Hexicans,” would be attending the dinner.

In August 2023, Trump turned himself in to the authorities after being indicted on charges related to his attempts to overturn the 2020 election. This marked the first time a current or former U.S. president had a mugshot taken. In December 2023, the former president announced that those who purchased at least 47 Mugshot digital trading cards, priced at $99 each, would be invited to a face-to-face dinner at Mar-a-Lago. The number 47 was a reference to Trump’s ambition of becoming the 47th U.S. president.
It is worth noting that the former president is required to attend his criminal trial for falsifying business documents related to a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels. This is separate from the charges he faces in Georgia, Florida, and the District of Columbia. Trump has been attending court sessions in New York since jury selection began on April 15. However, the court does not convene on Wednesdays, as Justice Juan Merchan, the presiding judge, handles other matters on those days.

As the first former U.S. president to face criminal charges, Trump has been criticizing Justice Merchan and the prosecutors. It remains uncertain whether NFTs or cryptocurrencies will be a topic of discussion during the Mar-a-Lago dinner. Trump has previously stated that he has never owned Bitcoin (BTC), but he has accepted cryptocurrency payments for his branded sneakers and other merchandise. Cointelegraph reached out to the Trump campaign for a comment but did not receive a response at the time of publication.
Before becoming the presumptive Republican nominee, Trump made a few public statements about cryptocurrencies, including his opposition to a U.S. central bank digital currency if he were to be elected president. He is expected to face off against President Joe Biden in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election in November.
