Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and a member of Coinbase’s global advisory council on cryptocurrency, has announced her decision to join President Joe Biden’s 2024 campaign as a senior adviser, as reported by Ebony on June 26. Lance Bottoms, who served as Atlanta’s mayor from 2018 to 2022, joined Coinbase’s advisory council in April 2024 after leaving a previous advisory role at the White House in 2023.
According to The Hill’s report on June 27, Lance Bottoms intends to continue her involvement with Coinbase throughout President Biden’s campaign, which culminates in the November elections. Lance Bottoms emphasized that cryptocurrency is a nonpartisan issue that can unite people.
It remains unclear whether Lance Bottoms will specifically advise the Biden campaign on cryptocurrency matters. Recent reports have indicated that President Biden is considering accepting cryptocurrency contributions from supporters and engaging in discussions with lawmakers regarding digital assets. Cointelegraph reached out to the Biden campaign for further details but did not receive a response at the time of reporting.
On June 26, Lance Bottoms addressed attendees at a Coinbase Stand With Crypto event in Atlanta ahead of the debate between President Biden and Donald Trump. The advocacy group has urged viewers to ask CNN moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash to raise crypto-related topics during the upcoming debate, which is scheduled for 90 minutes with a live audience.
“At the Stand With Crypto Atlanta event,” Lance Bottoms noted, “Atlanta boasts a thriving community of Black-owned blockchain enterprises. Cryptocurrency presents an opportunity for underserved communities, often excluded from traditional banking, to bolster their financial independence,” as reported by The Hill.

In other related news, former U.S. Representative Sean Patrick Maloney announced in February that he would step down from his role on Coinbase’s global advisory council if nominated by President Biden to represent the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Maloney was among the original members of the council when Coinbase established it in May 2023.
Since the inception of Stand With Crypto in 2023, Coinbase’s political action committee (PAC) has grown to encompass over one million supporters actively backing or opposing candidates at both state and federal levels. Coinbase also plays a significant role in supporting the Fairshake Super PAC, which has launched campaigns targeting politicians deemed anti-crypto by Stand With Crypto.
