David Hirsch, the head of crypto assets at the enforcement division of the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), has officially declared that he is leaving his position at the agency.
Hirsch, who initially joined the SEC as a staff attorney, made the announcement on LinkedIn on June 17, marking the end of his nearly nine-year tenure at the financial regulatory body. Reflecting on his time at the SEC, Hirsch expressed great pride in the work achieved by the agency’s Crypto Assets and Cyber Unit.
He attributed his success to the collaborative efforts of his colleagues and the support he received from mentors, leaders, and partners from various regulatory and law enforcement agencies. Hirsch acknowledged the contributions of numerous mentors, colleagues, and friends, as well as partnerships with regulators and law enforcement agencies at the state, federal, and international levels.
The former SEC official emphasized that securities enforcement is a collective effort and expressed gratitude to his colleagues for working towards a common goal. While acknowledging the difficulty of leaving the agency that has provided him with valuable experiences, Hirsch expressed excitement about the new challenges that lie ahead. He mentioned that he would be taking a break before embarking on his next venture.
Having served as an enforcement attorney at the SEC since 2015, Hirsch took on the role of chief of the agency’s crypto asset and cyber units division in October 2022. After nearly nine years at the SEC, he announced his departure from the agency.
