Litecoin’s (LTC) official social media account was temporarily compromised on January 11th by a scammer who promoted a fraudulent Litecoin token on the Solana network.
The hacker, in a now-deleted and grammatically incorrect post, falsely claimed that “LTC is now in Solana.” The post included a contract address and a link to the scam token on pump.fun.
The Litecoin team later announced that they had regained control of the account and explained that the hack occurred due to a compromised delegated account, which has since been removed.
This incident is part of a series of account hacks on X in recent months, where fake tokens or phishing links were promoted to deceive users and steal their funds and sensitive data.
Increase in X account hacks
On October 18th, the X account of the restaking protocol EigenLayer was hacked, and the hacker used it to promote a fake airdrop campaign. The scammer posted several malicious links claiming that the “Season 2 Stakedrop” was sourced from reallocated EIGEN tokens. The EigenLayer team regained control of the account later.
On November 3rd, the account of rapper Wiz Khalifa was compromised. The hacker advertised a fake celebrity memecoin called WIZ, falsely associating it with the musical artist.
Similarly, on December 8th, the X account of the Cardano Foundation was breached. The hacker took control of the social media page and promoted a fake token called “ADAsol.” During the incident, the threat actor falsely claimed that the Cardano Foundation would stop supporting its native asset, ADA (ADA), due to a lawsuit from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The scam generated approximately $500,000 in trading volume before it was exposed, and the price of “ADAsol” dropped by over 99%.
On December 26th, Yat Siu, the co-founder of Web3 company Animoca Brands, became a victim of an X account hack. The scammer used the account to advertise a fraudulent token called “Animoca Brands,” a fake memecoin on the Solana network that has no affiliation with the well-known Web3 company.
