SingularityNET founder Ben Goertzel believes that an early prototype framework for Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) could be operational as early as next year. Speaking at the Beneficial AGI Summit, Goertzel outlined a blueprint for the development of AGI that aims to ensure it is not controlled by corporations or governments and will benefit humanity. AGI refers to the development of an AI system that can perform any intellectual task that humans can. Goertzel’s plan involves using open source code, decentralized infrastructure and governance, diverse AGI algorithms, ethically sourced data, and global inclusivity. He stated that this blueprint underpins everything in the SingularityNET ecosystem. Goertzel also mentioned his OpenCog Hyperon project as a potential breakthrough system and stated that it would be released in Alpha in April. He described the Hyperon Alpha as a proto-AGI that would allow open-source developers to write better code for different AI applications. When asked about the possibility of developing a full AGI from the Alpha release, Goertzel explained that they would have a complete toolset for building a “baby AGI” and planned to scale up the system massively by the end of the year. He supported Vitalik Buterin’s defensive acceleration approach to AGI development, stating that it was important to avoid concentrating power over AGI in any single party. Goertzel also highlighted the risks associated with AGI development, such as the development of super AGI for destructive purposes and an unethical rollout that benefits only the elite. He emphasized the need for caution and attention to prevent such risks. Goertzel’s new book, “The Consciousness Explosion,” explores the benefits and risks of AGI and argues that it has the potential to liberate humans from repetitive labor, cure diseases, and potentially prevent death. However, he acknowledged that there are still uncertainties and risks associated with AGI development.
