UNICEF, the humanitarian aid organization, has found a unique way to raise funds for its mission of providing internet access to schools in developing countries. Through its Giga initiative, UNICEF aims to support 1.1 million schools in 49 countries. To achieve this, they have turned to nonfungible tokens (NFTs).
During an interview at the Blockchain Expo in Amsterdam, Gerben Kijne, Giga blockchain product manager, mentioned that their NFT fundraising initiative has attracted both UNICEF supporters who were new to NFTs and NFT collectors who were interested in owning a piece created by UNICEF.
