Asset management giant Vanguard has appointed Salim Ramji as its new CEO, replacing Tim Buckley. Ramji, a former executive at BlackRock, has been praised for his involvement in the approval and launch of BlackRock’s spot Bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF). Industry experts speculate whether Ramji’s appointment will lead to a change in Vanguard’s stance on Bitcoin and a potential late filing for a spot Bitcoin ETF. While some analysts believe Ramji may not be able to launch Vanguard’s own spot Bitcoin ETF, they suggest he could reverse the firm’s position on allowing clients to buy spot Bitcoin ETFs on its brokerage platform. Ramji’s hiring as an outsider is considered a surprise for Vanguard, as it is the first time the company has chosen an external candidate for the CEO role.
