Crypto leaders are set to convene privately “next week” with aides from the White House and Democratic Representative Ro Khanna to discuss urgent matters and propose changes in policy.
As reported by Bloomberg, the roundtable will feature key figures from Vice President Kamala Harris’s election campaign and the White House, including the outgoing senior adviser Anita Dunn, National Economic Adviser Lael Brainard, and Deputy Chief of Staff Bruce Reed.
**White House Engages with the Crypto Sector**
This meeting may signal the administration’s openness to engage with the cryptocurrency industry and address its regulatory concerns, underscoring the sector’s increasing influence in U.S. politics.
This gathering follows a previous roundtable in July, where crypto executives had substantial discussions with White House officials, including representatives from prominent companies like Ripple and Coinbase.
With around 50 million Americans having invested in digital assets, candidates in the upcoming U.S. presidential election are eager to attract support and donations from the crypto community.
Former President and Republican nominee Donald Trump has actively sought to connect with the crypto sector, tapping into the dissatisfaction among industry leaders regarding President Joe Biden’s stringent regulatory stance.
During a speech on July 27 at the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee, Trump vowed to position America as a global epicenter for cryptocurrency and promised to remove SEC Chair Gary Gensler if he regains office.
**Rebuilding Relationships**
Reports indicate that Trump has raised over $25 million from crypto advocates since his campaign began accepting Bitcoin (BTC) and other digital currencies as donations in May.
In July, advisers to Harris reached out to major crypto firms in an effort to repair the strained relationship between the Democratic Party and the cryptocurrency community.
Following a letter from Democratic representatives in the U.S. House, there is a growing momentum within the party to reassess its approach to the digital asset sector, aiming to shift from a perceived adversarial stance to a more supportive one.
The Harris campaign has also brought on David Plouffe as a senior adviser. A seasoned strategist, Plouffe has explored opportunities in the cryptocurrency field since leaving the White House in 2013 and joined Binance’s Global Advisory Board in 2022.
It remains unclear whether Plouffe’s advisory role will specifically focus on crypto and blockchain-related matters.
