Bitdeer, a Bitcoin mining company, has unveiled the cutting-edge “SEAL04” chip as part of its technology roadmap for the recently launched Sealminer rig. Scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2025, the SEAL04 chip is expected to achieve remarkable energy efficiency of as low as 5 joules per terahash (J/TH).
The company’s roadmap is aimed at enhancing transparency in the mining industry, managing miners’ expectations regarding technological advancements and equipment delivery, while also providing data analytics on machine capabilities, inventory, and purchasing behavior.
Bitdeer is leading the way in low-power Bitcoin mining with the introduction of the SEAL04 chip. This chip will power the fourth-generation Sealminer machine, which is set to enter mass production and be delivered starting in the fourth quarter of 2025. The machine’s power consumption will be optimized to 5.5–6 J/TH, significantly lower than the average of 29 J/TH.
Bitcoin mining has faced challenges related to power consumption, prompting mining companies to focus on reducing energy usage. Following the ban in Kazakhstan, miners have been transitioning to greener grids in North America or sustainable off-grid locations.
The development of a more energy-efficient chip could represent a major technological advancement in the cryptocurrency mining sector, offering enhanced Bitcoin mining performance with reduced power consumption. This would lead to lower operational costs and a smaller environmental footprint for miners.
In a previous development, Bitdeer successfully tested the SEAL01 chip in March, a 4-nanometer Bitcoin mining chip with a power efficiency of 18.1 J/TH, utilized in the Sealminer A1 mining rig.
Chips are vital components in cryptocurrency mining, responsible for carrying out the complex computations necessary to validate and secure transactions on the blockchain.
In other news, Tether recently entered into a subscription agreement with Bitdeer to acquire up to $150 million worth of its shares in a private placement. Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino praised Bitdeer as one of the leading vertically integrated operators in the Bitcoin mining industry, known for its advanced technologies and robust research and development efforts.
Bitdeer Technologies Group and Bhutan’s sovereign investment arm, Druk Holding and Investments (DHI), joined forces in May 2023 to establish eco-friendly and carbon-free digital asset mining operations in Bhutan.
Cointelegraph has reached out to Bitdeer for further information on the SEAL04 chip but has not yet received a response.
