Ghana’s national postal service is ensuring that the 25th coronation anniversary of its king will be forever remembered on the blockchain. In honor of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Ghana Post has released a new stamp collection called “Crypto Stamp.” This collection pays tribute to the king’s 25-year-long contributions to Ghana’s development and cultural integrity. The physical crypto stamps are connected to unique nonfungible tokens (NFTs) that can be verified on the blockchain. If you want to learn more about how NFTs work, you can read Cointelegraph’s crypto guide. The crypto stamps are limited to 7,200 pieces and cost 250 Ghanaian cedi ($18) per stamp. However, the website does not provide information about shipping charges for international destinations. Once purchased, users must manually link their physical collectible to its digital twin on the blockchain to claim its exclusivity. The physical stamps have an integrated near-field communication (NFC) chip to facilitate this process. The Crypto Stamp collection is the most expensive stamp collection offered by Ghana Post, with other collections costing less than half the price. However, there is also an exclusive gold frame stamp available for approximately 100,000 cedi ($7,200). With this commemorative NFT-based stamp collection, Ghana has become the first African country to introduce such an initiative. In other news, the South African Reserve Bank is focusing on regulating and adopting cryptocurrency and central bank digital currency (CBDC). They aim to increase the accessibility of financial technology, modernize payment infrastructure, and remove barriers to use. This plan is strictly domestic.
