QANplatform has introduced the world’s first quantum-resistant blockchain testnet that is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). This breakthrough allows developers to create quantum-resistant smart contracts using any programming language. According to Johann Polecsak, the co-founder and CTO of QANplatform, this is the first EVM-compatible testnet to offer quantum-resistant cybersecurity. The need for post-quantum security has become increasingly urgent since the launch of IBM Condor, the second-largest quantum processor with 1,121 qubits, in December 2023. Existing blockchain networks like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana cannot easily implement quantum-resistant security measures without significant drawbacks due to their decentralized nature. However, the QANplatform testnet enables EVM-compatible protocols to test the migration process for a quantum-resistant alternative without risking user funds on the mainnet. This announcement follows the recent adoption of QANplatform’s quantum-resistant technology by a European country in March. Governments worldwide are preparing for the post-quantum era, with initiatives like the European Commission’s Quantum Flagship research program. Quantum computing already poses a significant security threat to everyday internet users, and large companies like Apple are taking steps to future-proof their systems. Apple introduced an update in February to incorporate post-quantum cryptography into iMessages, making it one of the first quantum-proof messaging providers. While quantum computers may take time to develop, it is crucial to stay ahead in terms of post-quantum security, as stable qubits in quantum computers will have the power to break current cybersecurity algorithms.
