Notcoin, the popular clicker game, has successfully brought Telegram users into the world of cryptocurrencies, according to Sasha Plotvinov, the founder of Open Builders, the game’s development team. Since its release in January, the game has garnered a record-breaking 20 million sign-ups within just 26 days, surpassing the monthly active user count of another blockchain-based game called Axie Infinity, which peaked at 2.78 million in 2022. This achievement demonstrates that onboarding millions of users into crypto through gaming is indeed feasible.
Plotvinov discussed the game’s journey in an interview with Cointelegraph at the Token2049 event, revealing that Notcoin had reached approximately 30 million users by March. The initial aim was simply to introduce crypto to Telegram users, given the messaging app’s large user base. Plotvinov and his team recognized the potential of the TON blockchain, which, despite having minimal activity, possessed excellent technology.
After careful consideration, the team decided to simplify the onboarding process, making it more accessible to new users. Plotvinov emphasized the social aspect of the game, which incorporated interactions, competitions, leaderboards, and squads. He highlighted the ease of onboarding users within the Telegram app, making it a crucial factor in the game’s success.
Notcoin quickly became a social phenomenon, with 53,000 communities competing against each other to reach the highest league. Remarkably, the team achieved this without a marketing budget, relying solely on organic growth. Plotvinov explained that instead of trying to convince users of the game’s value, they took a different approach, positioning it as potentially insignificant. This unconventional strategy proved effective in attracting users.
In other news, the Web3 Gamer magazine featured an article on the Gods Unchained app, which has dropped its cryptocurrency element, and provided a review of the Kings of Fighters Arena game.
