Avail, a Web3 infrastructure layer constructed using Polygon’s software development kit (SDK), intends to distribute 600 million AVAIL tokens to users through an airdrop. The initiative, known as the Unification Drop, aims to unite various communities and reward contributors from multiple blockchain ecosystems, including developers, governance participants, technical educators, rollup users, stakers, and other valuable individuals. Avail, established in 2020, comprises three segments: Nexus, Fusion, and DA.
Avail DA enhances base-layer transactions by scaling rollups using techniques such as KZG commitments and data availability sampling. Data availability allows nodes to verify bundled transactions without downloading all block data, while KZG commitments enable the verification of underlying data without exposing private information. Additionally, Avail Nexus provides a cross-chain bridge for users to transact or swap assets across multiple blockchains, while Avail Fusion facilitates the liquid staking of assets on Ethereum, Bitcoin, and other platforms.
The AVAIL token is utilized to access Avail DA services, secure the unification layer through staking, and participate in governance. The airdrop distribution is based on a user’s total time, depth, and impact of their commitments to the ecosystem. Upon the mainnet launch, 354,605 wallet addresses will receive the airdropped AVAIL token.
Out of the 600 million tokens allocated for the airdrop, 90 million are designated for blockchain ecosystem developers, 49.5 million for testnet users, 380 million for rollup users on various blockchains like Arbitrum One, 70 million for Polygon stakers, and 10.5 million for community contributors. It’s important to note that the airdrop is not limited to Avail or Polygon ecosystem users. Avail believes that to achieve the unification of Web3, it must occur at the most fundamental level, including contributions from Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, Cosmos, Avalanche, Near, and other blockchain ecosystems.
The Polygon community has responded positively to the airdrop news, with Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal expressing excitement about the substantial airdrop for the community. Avail was separated from Polygon Labs on March 16, 2023, as Polygon shifted its focus towards Ethereum-native data availability efforts. Polygon Labs stated that Avail, as an independent layer, will be better positioned to lead the market in bringing modular blockchain architectures and scalability to any Web3 project.
