A collaboration between prominent figures from Hollywood and the gaming industry has resulted in the establishment of a cutting-edge Web3 games publisher in the United Arab Emirates. Known as Galactic Entertainment Publishing, this new venture serves as the flagship subsidiary of Galactic Group. The company’s first project, PlanetQuest, has been in active development since 2022. Loren Roosendaal, the CEO of Galactic Entertainment and the founder of PlanetQuest, revealed to Cointelegraph that despite the game not yet being launched, it has already garnered a substantial user base.
The creators of PlanetQuest consist of a team of former employees from renowned companies such as Disney, Warner Bros., Activision-Blizzard, and Epic. These individuals have previously contributed to a plethora of successful franchises, spanning from iconic films like The Batman, Avengers, and Blade Runner to highly acclaimed games such as Fortnite, Call of Duty, and Star Wars: Jedi Survivor. Jon McCoy, the chief creative officer of Galactic Entertainment, who has an extensive background in working on AAA Hollywood blockbusters, expressed that the experiences he has had with Galactic Group surpass anything he has encountered in the past.
Described as a world reminiscent of Star Wars, PlanetQuest offers players the opportunity to own and trade various assets within the game. From spaceships to entire planets, these digital assets can be acquired and either utilized in the game or sold/traded to other players in exchange for native currency. Galactic has future plans to release tie-in media for PlanetQuest, which will include novels, comic books, and an undisclosed additional game, as reported by VentureBeat.
In a related development, Disney has recently launched its own NFT platform in collaboration with Dapper Labs.
