The creator of the Ore project, known as Hardhat Chad, has put forward a suggestion to the Solana Foundation regarding the incentivization of testnet activity. This recommendation comes in response to the recent congestion issues faced by the Solana network, which resulted in a transaction failure rate of up to 75%.
In a post on the X social platform, Hardhat Chad proposed that the Solana Foundation should offer a reward in the form of SOL tokens in order to encourage users to actively participate in testnet activities. By engaging in testing and providing feedback, users can help improve the platform’s performance and identify any potential issues before they are deployed to the mainnet.
The response from the community to Hardhat Chad’s suggestion has been mixed. While some have expressed support, others have disagreed. One user, TheSoftwareJedi, advised Chad to focus on building his project and demonstrating goodwill to the foundation. The user suggested that Chad could apply for funding through a grant from the foundation, but emphasized the importance of maintaining autonomy from foundation incentives.
Hardhat Chad clarified that he is not seeking funds from the foundation, as his goal for Ore is to establish a currency rather than develop testnet tools. He is currently reassessing incentives to combat spam and questioning the necessity of prioritizing the development of testnet spam bots.
This proposal from Hardhat Chad follows his announcement on social media that the immediate cessation of mining operations is crucial for the well-being of the Solana network and Ore’s stakeholders. He emphasized the need for an improved smart contract framework in light of recent network difficulties.
This strategic move is also in line with Ore’s roadmap for the development of its second version (v2), which highlights a commitment to long-term sustainability. Ore, a blockchain-based project launched on Solana, is exploring different methods of distributing its tokens using a proof-of-work (PoW) mechanism. The project aims to combine PoW’s security with Solana’s fast transaction capabilities.
Since its introduction, Ore’s activity has significantly contributed to network congestion on Solana, resulting in issues with transaction scheduling and a high rate of failed transactions, particularly during the memecoin frenzy on the network.
However, Solana developers have released a mainnet beta update (v1.17.31) to address the ongoing network congestion. This update includes enhancements that will help alleviate some of the congestion, with further improvements planned for v1.18.
