ZachXBT, a well-known investigator in the blockchain space, has declined to assist holders of Complex memecoin, which was created on the Base blockchain, after the project was abruptly shut down on April 4.
In a statement, the protocol’s team expressed their difficult decision to sunset Complex due to recent instances of harassment that had created an unsustainable environment impacting the mental well-being of their members. They described the project as a labor of love and a source of inspiration.
Meanwhile, the native token of Complex, SIMPLE, will remain locked until a later date, allowing users to sell their holdings. However, the value of the SIMPLE token has plummeted by more than 90% within the past 24 hours, resulting in a negligible market cap.
Users were highly dissatisfied with the developers’ explanation of mental health as the main reason for shutting down the project. One user expressed their disappointment, questioning the sincerity of the developers’ post and accusing them of using mental health as an excuse to rug, or scam, the community.
Some disgruntled users turned to ZachXBT for assistance, but even he expressed his dissatisfaction with the influx of help requests. He made it clear that he did not care about meme coins and did not want to spend his time helping those who willingly gambled on such projects. He also criticized those who spoke poorly of him while expecting his free assistance.
Another user seemed to have a deeper understanding of the situation and expressed their gratitude towards ZachXBT for his work in exposing scams and his resilience in the face of attacks.
The Complex memecoin project appears to have ended shortly after its launch on March 30. At its peak, the project had attracted 3,013 token holders. Memecoins have been experiencing significant returns during the current crypto bull market, with an average of 1,312.6% returns, the highest among the top tokens by market capitalization.
