Alipay, an online payment platform, has partnered with Avalanche, a smart contract blockchain platform, to create a voucher program utilizing Web3 technology. The collaboration was announced on March 20th and involves Alipay’s ordering solution, Alipay+ D-store, and its affiliated e-wallets utilizing Avalanche for the voucher program. Initially, the program was launched in Southeast Asian milk tea stores, where customers can acquire vouchers by playing a mini-game. Once the game is completed, customers can claim their vouchers in their e-wallets. These vouchers provide users with discounts of up to 50% at over 500 milk tea shops. The vouchers are powered by an Avalanche Subnet built and managed by their blockchain service, AvaCloud. Avalanche has stated that this program allows Alipay to explore solutions powered by Web3 technology and collaborate with other brands using blockchain features and digital collectibles. Currently, the program is in its proof-of-concept (POC) stage and is expected to expand to over 2,000 stores and reach 100 million users. Avalanche has been actively growing its ecosystem by partnering with well-known brands. In February, they partnered with Sports Illustrated’s ticketing arm to host their nonfungible token (NFT) ticketing platform on Avalanche’s network. Additionally, Avalanche has expanded into the gaming industry by announcing a collaboration with the popular online role-playing game, MapleStory, to offer content-generation opportunities to its users.
