CCP Games, the renowned developer and publisher behind EVE Online, has finally unveiled new information about their highly anticipated blockchain game, “Project Awakening.” In a pair of posts on the game’s official website on March 13, CCP announced that the next playtest and hackathon for Project Awakening will be held on May 21. As of now, signups for the closed beta are open.
These posts also provided a sneak peek into the game world and its lore. According to CCP, Project Awakening will offer a single-shard survival experience, meaning players will not be divided into separate instances. The game is set in a bleak, decaying expanse of space, where civilization has crumbled due to its own ambitious nature. Gameplay will reportedly center around survival, reconstructing a shattered world, and engaging in combat.
While CCP confirmed that Project Awakening will incorporate blockchain gaming in some way, the specifics of this integration remain unclear. A blog post from CCP suggested that the game may support digital assets, real estate ownership, or other forms of blockchain-based commoditization, but details are currently scarce.
Another blog post, supposedly written from the perspective of a non-player character, was also released on March 13. However, it primarily serves as an intriguing teaser rather than a comprehensive exploration of the game world, with lines such as “too long the gate network hasn’t carried thinking meat through its veins.”
Cointelegraph reached out to CCP for further information about the hackathon and what participants can expect. CCP CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson informed Cointelegraph that the company does not have a launch window to share at this time.
In related news, a new launch platform targeting developers and gamers in the Web3 gaming space has been introduced.
