Studio369 is thrilled to reveal the upcoming launch of the third Closed Beta (CB3) for its popular massively multiplayer online game (MMO), MetalCore, scheduled to commence on June 27.
During this beta phase, players can expect a range of new updates, including the integration of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and Web3 technology into the gameplay.
Dan Nikolaides, MetalCore’s chief technology officer and a former software engineer at Midway and WB Games, shared insights with Cointelegraph about the shift from Web2 to Web3.
The introduction of NFTs will provide players with the opportunity to own unique in-game items that can be traded, fostering a player-centered economy.
Nikolaides discussed the inclusion of “blueprints” essential for players to advance and prosper within the game.
Additionally, this latest beta phase will introduce SHARDS, an offchain currency that allows users to purchase digital collectibles using fiat currencies. Nikolaides expressed:
CB3 will incorporate Web3 technology to enhance in-game features without mandating players to possess a digital wallet.
Studio369 collaborated with Immutable to implement this middleware layer, aiming to appeal to both traditional gamers and individuals familiar with blockchain technology.
Nikolaides emphasized that the MetalCore team aims to foster gradual growth and develop the game in a responsible manner.
In parallel to MetalCore’s progress, Ronin recently announced its expansion to support a broader gaming ecosystem through a zero-knowledge (ZK) Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) blockchain.
Jeff Zirlin, co-founder of Sky Mavis, noted that this innovation could facilitate up to four billion transactions daily.
Ronin’s layer-2 zkEVM is designed to enhance user capacity and support game studio partners.
In other news, the SEC has closed its Ether probe but continues to pursue substantial penalties from Ripple.
