Aptos Labs and NBCUniversal have forged a long-term partnership aimed at enhancing the entertainment giant’s offerings through Web3 fan experiences, customer loyalty programs, and gaming. Aptos Labs, known for its expertise in developing fan engagements for major Universal Pictures releases, is set to expand NBCUniversal’s existing Web3 initiatives.
In a recent announcement, Aptos Labs highlighted its successful launch of “Free Renfield the Game” in March 2023, based on the film “Renfield.” This interactive game enables players to hunt for bugs that confer superhuman abilities, aligning them with scenes from the movie while competing for prizes, including collectible digital art.
Additionally, Aptos Labs pioneered behind-the-scenes content, augmented reality filters, digital artworks, and prize opportunities for ticket holders of “The Exorcist: Believer” through Fandango, further enriching fan engagement.
NBCUniversal has been actively exploring Web3 applications, exemplified by initiatives like a digital scavenger hunt during Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood and Universal Orlando Resort, developed in collaboration with the MoonPay blockchain payment system.
Greg Reed, Vice President of Technology Partnerships at Universal Pictures, affirmed NBCUniversal’s commitment to Web3 innovation. Comcast-owned NBCUniversal also oversees DreamWorks Animation and the Peacock streaming service.
Furthermore, Aptos Labs, led by former Meta executives Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, introduced a proof-of-stake blockchain in October 2022, leveraging a programming language initially designed for Meta’s Diem project. This blockchain powers diverse platforms including the PancakeSwap decentralized exchange, the Chingari social media platform in India, and the Overlai service for intellectual property rights protection.
In a move to appeal to the financial services sector, Aptos Labs integrated Microsoft’s artificial intelligence tools from the Azure OpenAI service in August.
